Since moving to Europe from Florida in 2010, people have always asked me what I miss most about home. The answer used to be long: family, friends, the beach, and yes, the food.
But over the last 13 years, a lot has changed. I have a family of my own now. I have made life-long friends here in Switzerland. Trips to the beach have been replaced by hikes in breathtaking mountain ranges. Something that just can't be replaced however, is the food; I still miss southern cooking.
That's why I started American Oak BBQ. I wanted to replicate the flavors of my home - the American South - here in Switzerland. In order to get things just right, I imported our first offset smoker from Coal Mountain, Georgia. I sourced the same hardwoods we use to smoke in Florida, and I partnered with Swiss butchers knowledgeable in US cuts of meat - all to ensure our customers get an authentic experience.
Since then, the idea has caught on. I've met countless BBQ fans along the way, some of whom have joined the American Oak team to bring the best of the south to Switzerland, one bite at a time.
